  • Understanding and Influencing Your Poker Opponents

To the outsider, Poker seems to be your typical casino game where the person that flops the best hand wins the game. However, for those that play, it is evidently more than that, and keys to winning rests in other factors beyond getting the high hands. This includes knowing how to influence and manipulate the other players.

Winning the game means knowing how to interpret each hand correctly. You have to understand that Poker involves constructing the winning hand based not just on what you have but also what the other players and the community cards hold. In the pieces that make up the winning hand, your hand is one part.

Because the other parts are being held by your opponents, the Poker strategy must include knowing how to understand, as it will go a long way towards helping you manipulate them, and influence their decisions to help you win.

The key to knowing your Poker opponents of course, rests in how well you observe them. Start with the basics; if they have a limited bankroll, then you know that you have to push them. Being short on cash or in chips, you will be able to influence their play because you know their options are limited.

As you gain an understanding of your Poker opponents through observation, the easier you will be able to read and influence their game. You will be able to get them to bet, call or raise in ways beneficial to you. If you know your opponent is very loose, you can instigate a raise by making a bet you know he will respond to.

Similarly, if you are facing someone you now know to be a weak tight player, you can get him to fold by making the appropriate raise. If you want to keep him in the game, you will play it more tightly.

The ability to influence how your opponents play will be determined by other factors in the game, such as how often they tilt, how much they bet or raise, or even the way they talk. Online, you will be quite surprised at how much info they give away on the chat box.

The complexity of Poker is such that it is often compared to a puzzle, only you do not have all the pieces. However, through keen observation and understanding, you will be able to put the whole thing together and get yourself the pot.
