  • How to Play Online Poker

In trying to explore something new, people usually look for certain guidelines or handbooks to guide them into their new world. Playing online poker is no different. Any newcomer usually looks for help in exploring the world of online poker. I hope this article helps in giving you an overview of online poker and how it works.

Playing online poker is no different from playing normal poker. Same rules and procedures apply. The only difference is you are playing online and not in front of other poker players. This maybe found weird at first but you'll soon get used to it.

So how do you get started in online poker? First, you have to download a particular online poker software or poker client. You then install this, register, and create your own username and other related information.

In joining a current poker game just click on an empty seat and select the number of chips you are bringing to the poker table. You will be able to see your own cards and the board cards but like in offline poker, you are prohibited from seeing your opponent's cards.

The actions of poker playing such as check, fold, call and raise can normally be found at the bottom right corner of the poker table. You just need to click on your action whenever it is your turn.

One of the features online poker possesses that significantly differs from offline poker is the ability of the players to play many hands at the same time. Online poker also enables its players to pre-check their desired action while playing other hands in other virtual online poker tables.

Online poker also minimizes the time spent on dealing, shuffling and collecting the cards from the players. This is because the dealer is the computer thus saving a lot of time as compared to real life poker. Online poker also enables you to keep track of your wins and losses and your opponent's wins and losses allowing you to estimate the skill and ability of your opponent.

It is advised to first observe the poker table before joining to get an idea of the skill level of the players you are going to compete with. If you are new at poker playing it would be advisable to try it out first in the play money round to get you acquainted to the workings of online poker.

As you can see it is relatively easy to play online poker. The real challenge comes from the actual competition with other poker players. Enjoy every game. Have fun.
